“Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness. [R]eason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle. Purity of morals [is] the only sure foundation of public happiness in any country. [T]he government…can never be in danger of degenerating…so long as there shall remain any virtue in the body of the people. [T]rue religion affords to government its surest support. Religion and morality are the essential pillars of civil society.”
These are the words of President George Washington. He, like so many of America’s Founding Fathers, believed that religion and morality each must play an important role in establishing a firm foundation upon which to build our great nation.
Unfortunately, some 200 years later Washington’s words are all but long forgotten. Moreover, there is a movement afoot in America today to tear down these two “essential pillars” upon which this nation was established. Organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, the Human Rights Campaign, the National Abortion Rights Action Leage, and so many others are at the forefront of this battle against the institutions of religion and morality. Together they seek to remove God from the public square while promoting immorality in the forms of abortion, homosexuality, pornography, and the like.
It is the purpose and intent of this blog to shed some light on these organizations and their efforts to destroy America as we know it. Ignored by the mainstream media, they are making huge strides every day, while most Christians go about their daily activities unawares.
Fortunately, some have boldly risen to the challenge of defending our nation’s religious and moral heritage. Organizations like the Alliance Defense Fund, the Liberty Counsel, the American Family Association, Focus on the Family, and the Family Research Council have already achieved successes too numerous to count.
This blog will also seek to highlight the efforts of these organizations as they work to preserve and restore the prominence of religion and traditional morality in modern-day America.
We hope that you will bookmark this blog and check back daily for updates from the frontlines of the culture war Americans find themselves bitterly engaged in today. It is not a battle against culture; it is a battle for culture, with the winner determining whether religion and morality will prosper in American society, or be forever relegated to the trashheap of history. As citizens of this great democracy, it is our duty to stay well-informed of the battles raging around us. It is our prayer that this blog will aid in your efforts to do just that.

Greeting from the solagravitas blog. I haven’t added you to our blogroll yet, but I noticed an error on this page. On the first line of the 3rd paragraph on this page, you have “2000 years later” written when I’m sure you meant “200.” Great blog and I really like your message.

Haha, thanks, Bryce. Jesus was 2000 years ago, the Founders were 200…why can’t I keep that straight?!

Awesome! Yeah, I’ll be graduating in May and then on to law school at the University of Virginia. I’ve really enjoyed my time at Harding but I’m looking forward to being at UVA in the fall.

And the world becomes even smaller. I’m in Roanoke. I always wonder what God is up to when connections like this are made.
Enjoy your last semester. Virginia is beautiful. I’m a transplant by marriage from the mid-west and have no desire to move back. I’m sure you’ll love it.

Maybe so. I have friends who went to law school with him and think very well of him. He’s made some good decisions as AG. Ora et labora!

Thanks for the comment on my Ayers blog. Just wrote a post you may be interested in republishing (Do You Know Where Your United Way Contributions Are Going?) or researching further on a national scale as it specifically addresses the very core of your blog.
Thanks,
Abe
